Calendar of Events:
I will begin my weekly CPR classes for all seniors this month. This class is required by the state to receive a high school diploma. 15 students per class may sign up at a time, the sign up sheet is in my office. Class times are announced during the school day. Please come see me if you are already CPR certified.
On January 17th at 6:00 p.m, Ms. Samantha Young, an education coordinator for H.O.P.E., an HIV testing facility in Tulsa, OK will be in the high school media class room to give an opportunity to all parents to view all curriculum she will be presenting to our students covering HIV/AIDS/Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs). A link to her PowerPoint can be accessed here for those parents who are unable to attend the meeting:
On February 12th, we will begin our series of sex education lectures. The lecture covering HIV/AIDS/STIS will be given by Ms. Samantha Young. This HIV/AIDS lecture is education required by the state of Oklahoma. A link to the requirement can be found here: https://www.ok.gov/health/Disease,_Prevention,_Preparedness/HIV_STD_Service/HIV_Education_Training_(HET)/index.html.
While the STI portion of the lecture is not required by the state, I hope the need for this education is appreciated by the parents in this community.
On February 21st, Local Nurse Practioner Kelly Long will be presenting our anatomy and physiology of pregnancy.
Finally, Mr. Sean Bridges and Ms. Deidre Killion BS, RN will spreak to our students about the multiple programs the Delaware County Health Department offers our community.
We at Jay schools would like to make it clear that none of these lectures is required by the school, as a health care professional I truly hope our parents see the need for this education.
WE WILL NOT SEND OUT OPT OUT FORMS IN THE HIGH SCHOOL. PLEASE HAVE YOUR STUDENT COME TO MY OFFICE TO BRING HOME A FORM FOR YOU TO SIGN AND RETURN TO MY OFFICE. IF YOU DO NOT SIGN A FORM, YOUR STUDENT MAY ATTEND THESE LECTURES.
As always, please feel free to call me with any questions. I am happy to help.
